Quiet Calories — Privacy Policy

Quiet Calories is made by Echo House Labs Inc. This policy explains what the app does — and deliberately does not do — with your information. We've tried to write it plainly.

The short version

• Your food log, weight, water, exercise, profile, and goals are stored only on your device.
• There is no account — no sign-up, no email, no password, no cloud profile.
• We run no behavioral analytics, ads, third-party advertising trackers, or crash-reporting tools. RevenueCat provides anonymous purchase analytics.
• Food lookup and recipe import make internet requests you choose to start. When RevenueCat is configured, the app also contacts it at launch and during purchase-related actions to load products and check access.
• You can remove your on-device data at any time in the app or by uninstalling it. Store and RevenueCat purchase records are handled separately below.

1. Who we are

Quiet Calories is operated by Echo House Labs Inc. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information stored on your device

Everything you log lives in a private database on your device:

• Your profile (sex assigned at birth, birth date, height, activity level, goal, target weight, and pace).
• Food and drink entries, recipes, saved meals, and "build a plate" items.
• Weight entries, exercise and workouts, water intake, and steps.
• Your settings and preferences (units, theme, reminders, hidden-calorie mode, and so on).

We do not have access to this information. It is not uploaded to us or to any server, and it is not synced to the cloud. If you uninstall the app without first making a backup, this data is removed along with it.

3. Information that leaves your device

A small number of features send requests over the internet. They do not send your name, email, food log, health data, or profile. RevenueCat uses a random anonymous billing identifier, as described below.

Food search (the Quiet food bank)

When you search for a food, the app sends the words you typed to the Quiet food bank — a nutrition database we host ourselves, built from public government sources. It sends nothing else: no account, no device identifier, and no part of your log, profile, or health data. There is no account to attach a search to, and the access key the app uses is the same for every copy of Quiet Calories, so a search cannot be tied to you by anything we send. As with any internet request, our server receives the query and standard technical information such as your IP address, and our hosting provider keeps ordinary request logs for a short period so we can keep the service running and stop abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share them.

You can turn this off at any time in Settings, under Food search. With it off, the app searches only the food database already bundled inside it, and nothing about your search leaves your device.

Food and barcode lookup (Open Food Facts)

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the app sends the search text or the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a third-party open food database, to retrieve nutrition information. As with any internet request, Open Food Facts receives the query and standard technical information (such as your IP address). The request also carries an app identifier and our developer contact address — ours, not yours — as Open Food Facts asks of apps that use its API. We do not send your logs, profile, or personal details. Open Food Facts has its own privacy policy.

Recipe import

If you choose to import a recipe from a web link, the app fetches that web page so it can read the published nutrition or ingredient information. The website you link to receives a request from your device, the same as opening the page in a browser would. Pasting a recipe as plain text instead is fully offline.

Apple Health / Health Connect (optional)

If you allow it, the app reads health data you already keep on your device — such as weight, workouts, and steps — to save you re-entering it. It never writes entries back to Apple Health or Health Connect. This happens on-device with your permission and stays on your device. We do not transmit your health data to us or to anyone else. You control this permission in your system settings and can revoke it at any time. To be explicit, as Apple requires: data read from HealthKit is never used for advertising, is never shared with or sold to third parties, and never leaves your device through this app.

Purchases (Quiet Plus)

Apple's App Store or Google Play handles payment; we do not see or store your payment-card or bank details. When purchase support is configured, the app contacts RevenueCat at launch and during purchase, restore, and entitlement checks. RevenueCat acts as our purchase-infrastructure provider and processes a randomly generated anonymous billing ID, basic technical context (such as platform, operating-system and app version, country, locale, and timestamps), the Apple receipt or Google purchase token, and transaction details derived from it (such as product, dates, price, renewal, and refund status). RevenueCat uses this information to validate purchases, unlock Quiet Plus, prevent fraud, provide support, and supply aggregate purchase analytics. It does not receive your name, email, food log, health data, or profile from Quiet Calories. This billing information is stored on RevenueCat's servers and is governed by RevenueCat's privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy as well as the store's terms and privacy policy.

Backups you create

You can create a backup file of your data. That file is created by you and saved or shared wherever you choose (for example, to Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another app). Once you move or share a backup, it is handled by whatever service you send it to — please treat it like any other personal file. We never receive your backups.

4. What we don't do

• No accounts, logins, or passwords.
• No behavioral or advertising analytics, usage profiling, or telemetry.
• No advertising and no ad networks.
• No crash-reporting SDKs. RevenueCat is used only for billing, entitlement, support, and aggregate purchase analytics as described above.
• No selling or renting your data, and no sharing it for advertising.

5. Permissions the app may request

• Camera — only to scan barcodes. Images are processed on-device and are not stored or sent anywhere.
• Notifications — to deliver the optional reminders you turn on. These are scheduled and delivered on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
• Health (Apple Health / Health Connect) — optional, to read your weight, workouts, and steps as described above; the app does not write data back.
• Files / storage — to let you save or restore a backup file you choose.
• Physical activity / activity recognition (Android) — only if you opt in to step tracking.

You can grant or revoke any of these in your device's system settings. The app works without them; they simply enable specific features.

6. Children's privacy

Quiet Calories is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your region, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. On-device data remains local, while optional store purchases are processed as described above. If you have concerns about a child's use of the app, please contact us.

7. Keeping and deleting your data

Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can:

• Delete individual entries within the app.
• Clear or reset your data from the app's settings.
• Uninstall the app, which removes its on-device database — make a backup first if you want to keep your history.

Uninstalling does not cancel a store subscription or automatically delete the anonymous purchase record held by RevenueCat. To request deletion of that record where applicable, email [email protected] with the Billing ID shown in the app's About screen (tap it to copy), or your store order ID. We can delete the corresponding RevenueCat customer record; this does not cancel an active subscription, which must be managed through the App Store or Google Play.

8. Security

Your information is stored in the app's private storage area on your device, protected by your device's own security (passcode, biometrics, and operating-system sandboxing). No method of storage is perfectly secure, but because your food and health data do not leave your device by default, your device itself is the main safeguard — we recommend keeping it locked and its software up to date. RevenueCat encrypts billing data in transit.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version at https://quietcalories.com/privacy. Material changes will be reflected there and in the copy bundled with the app.
